Roofing & Siding FAQ’s

Roofing FAQs

How many years do I have left on my roof?

You can assess your roof’s remaining lifespan by looking for these warning signs:

  • Peeling or curling shingles
  • Missing granules
  • Spacing between shingles
  • Lifting or loose shingles
  • General wear and tear
  • Leaks or water damage

Should I choose metal or asphalt shingles?

This is really just personal preference. Both materials have their benefits, so the choice often comes down to your aesthetic preferences, budget, and specific needs.

How often should I clear my roof of snow?

We don’t recommend doing it too often unless there’s a weight issue with heavy snow accumulation. When you do shovel, avoid scraping down to the shingles, as this can cause damage. Keep in mind that ventilation issues can contribute to ice damming problems.

What does a new roof cost?

The average cost ranges from $7,000 to $12,000, depending on the size and complexity of your roof. However, the best way to know the exact cost for your specific project is to request a quote.

How long does roof installation take?

Most roofing projects can be completed in one day, with some taking 1-2 days. However, unforeseen circumstances can change this timeline.

Should I put new roofing over my existing roof?

You can install new roofing over existing materials, but it all depends on the integrity of what’s underneath. A professional assessment is recommended to determine if this approach is suitable for your situation.

Siding

What type of siding do you install?

We only install vinyl siding because it’s easier to work with and the most cost-effective option. While cedar shakes are available, they’re expensive, and clad boards are time-consuming to install.

What are the benefits of vinyl siding?

You can power wash vinyl siding, making maintenance simple and straightforward.

How do you help with color selection?

Just Roofing will guide you through the color selection process by bringing sample boards and books with examples to help you make the best choice for your home.

What are the signs I should replace my siding?

Look for these indicators that it’s time for new siding:

  • Cracking or breaking
  • Pieces falling apart
  • Sun damage and fading

Can I install new siding over existing siding?

You cannot install vinyl over existing vinyl siding. However, you can install vinyl siding over cedar shakes.
